Ganesh Chaturthi significance and wishes for 2022: One of the most important holidays in India is Ganesh Chaturthi, which honours the birth of Lord Ganesha, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, luck, and wealth.
The
Indian holiday season has started, which means it's time to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in 2022. The event will be observed on August 31, 2022, rather than
its customary dates in August and September. Ganpati puja, sometimes referred
to as Ganeshotsav, is a 10-day event that concludes on Anant Chaturdashi. The
final day of the festival is when Ganesh Visarjan, or the immersion, takes
place. This year, Ganesh Visarjan falls on September 9.
One
of the Hindu religion's most beloved deities is Lord Ganesha. Devotees worship
the God of money, sciences, knowledge, wisdom, and prosperity before beginning
any significant or fortunate endeavour. There are 108 various names for Lord
Ganesha, some of which include Gajanana, Vinayaka, and Vighnaharta.
Ganesha
statues are erected on elevated platforms in homes or in ornately decorated
outside tents at the beginning of the festival. Pranapratishtha, a rite to
bring life to the idols, is the first step in worship. This is followed by
shhodashopachara, or the 16 ways of expressing adoration. The Ganesh Upanishad
and other Vedic hymns are chanted as people anoint the idols with red sandalwood paste and yellow and red flowers. Additionally, coconut, jaggery,
and 21 modaks—sweet dumplings thought to be Ganesha's favourite food—are served
to him.
Large
processions with drumbeats, devotional singing, and dancing transport the idols
to nearby waterways at the festival's end. They are submerged there as part of
a ritual that represents Ganesha's return to Mount Kailas, the home of his
parents, Shiva and Parvati.
When
Maratha ruler Shivaji (c. 1630–80) utilised Ganesh Chaturthi to incite
nationalist enthusiasm among his subjects, who were fighting the Mughals, it
took on the character of a grand public celebration. Bal Gangadhar Tilak, an
Indian patriot, reintroduced the event in 1893 after the British outlawed
political gatherings. The event is now observed by Hindu communities all over
the world, although it is especially well-liked in Maharashtra and other
regions of western India.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2022: History and significance
The child of Shiva and Pavati is
Ganesha. His birth is the subject of numerous legends. According to one such
myth, Goddess Parvati is credited with creating Ganpati. In the absence of Lord Shiva, she created Ganesha with her sandalwood paste and stationed him on guard
while she took a bath. Lord Shiva arrived while she was gone, and Ganesha, who
didn't know who he was, followed his mother's instructions and prevented him
from entering the house. Ganesha's head was chopped by an enraged Lord Shiva.
As soon as Parvati learned of this, she became enraged, changed into the
goddess Kali, and declared she would destroy the universe.
To discover a solution to quell
Goddess Kali's rage, everyone appealed to Lord Shiva. Shiva then gave the
command to all of his followers to look for a child whose mother had abandoned
him or her and bring his head. The infant elephant whose head was offered to
Lord Shiva per Lord Shiva's command was the first one seen by the followers.
Lord Shiva, who had resurrected, put the head on Ganesha's body in an instant.
All the Lords blessed Ganesha, which is why the day is still remembered and
celebrated today.
